About Cosmlean Peel

Cosmelan is a professional depigmentation peel system. Cosmelan’s regulatory action targets the source of pigmentation by reducing melanin synthesis and blocking the transfer of melanin from the deeper layers to the skin’s surface.

Cosmelan’s corrective action works by accelerating skin cell turnover at the surface, removing melanin accumulation, and reducing the amount of melanin formed, which decreases the intensity of the pigmentation.

How does Cosmelan Peel work?

Cosmelan is a professional depigmentation peel system. It is a two-phase process with the first step performed in the clinic. Phase 1 – The Cosmelan 1 peel is applied to the face and left on the skin for 8-12 hours. Phase 2 –  is home care that needs to be applied daily to allow the shedding to happen. This is a tyrosinase inhibitor, which works by sedating the production of excess melanin.

Is this peel safe for my skin type?

We consider the Cosmelan Peel safe for all skin; however we will assess your skin to see if it’s the best treatment for your skin.

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on your main concern and condition of your skin. We only recommend 1 Cosmelan Peel per year if you suffer with pigmentation. The first peel will require 6 months of dedication to the pigmentation removal.

Pre treatment 

You must prepare your skin with prescribed skincare for 4 weeks prior to your session to ensure all your cells are strengthened and prepared for your peel.  Preparing the treatment area is essential to its success and helps minimise your healing time. Following our expert advice on pre and post care plus maintenance, contributes to 70% of your treatment’s success.

• Must be using Brightening Peel Booster in your skincare routine 4 weeks prior to having the Cosmelan Peel done.
• Must have a Lactic acid chemical peel in clinic 2 weeks prior to having Cosmlean peel done. This is essential to ensure all the pigment cells are in the correct layers of skin before commencing Cosmelan.
• You must apply a SPF 50+ containing zinc for two to four weeks prior to the treatment date.
• Use corrective prescribed skincare by your therapist for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.
• Avoid direct sun exposure for two to four weeks prior to treatment.
• No spray tans
• Avoid UV/heat-based treatments (sauna/tanning bed) for two weeks prior.
• Arrive to your appointment with cleansed skin and no lotions.
• Be sure to notify your therapist if you’re on any medication – this includes contraception and vitamins.
• Do not use serums/lotions with active ingredients one week prior to your treatment.
• Do not use filler four weeks prior to treatment.
• Do not use Botox two weeks prior to treatment.
• Avoid facial waxing or laser hair removal for two weeks prior to being treated.
• If you’re prone to herpes simplex, you must use Zovirax for five days before and after intensive treatment.
• If you have an autoimmune disease, you must be on oral antibiotics during the healing period.
• Apply sunscreen every morning and reapply after four hours if you’re in water or direct sunlight. Ensure your sunscreen SPF is 50+ UVA and UVB.

Post Treatment

The Cosmelan treatment mask will be applied in clinic.
The mask is to be left on the skin for 8-12 hours, depending on skin type.

• Please mist skin every 2-3 hours with water while the mask is on during the day.
• On completion of application time, remove cosmelan 1 mask with lukewarm water and apply Melan recovery cream. The next day continue with the first 72 hours steps below.

PLEASE NOTE: It is imperative that ONLY mesoestetic skincare products are to be used as part of the Cosmelan method to achieve the best possible outcome but also minimise the incidence of reactions.
The homecare should be followed for up to six months after the treatment.

• You will leave the clinic with a brown mask on your face and required to leave this on your skin anywhere from 8-12hours before washing off.
• You must spritz your face with water every 2-4 hours to ensure the peel says a little mosit and doesn’t dry up.
• Once you have reached your time, you will need to remove the mask.
• It is important that you follow prescribed aftercare instructions which will require you to commit to this for 4 weeks. This will be explained to you in clinic once commencing the Cosmelan.
• You may experience darkening/shedding of pigment lesions, do not pick, or exfoliate them, allow them to come away themselves.
• Do not apply any makeup for 24-48 hours after your treatment.
• Avoid strenuous exercise and/or swimming, sun exposure, cooking over a hot stove or oven,
• Hot showers or anything that will heat the skin for 24-48 hours.
• Avoid the use of active ingredients (AHA, Retinols, Acidic) for one week.
• Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (antihistamine).
• No waxing or laser hair removal on the treated area for two weeks.
• Avoid chlorinated water for 72 hours.
• You need to use sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Use sunscreen with SPF 50 or above UVA/UVB broad-spectrum daily and reapply regularly.
• Try to avoid direct sun exposure for two weeks. If you are prone to herpes simplex, you must use Zovirax for two days before and five days after intensive treatment.
• If you have an autoimmune disease, you must be on oral antibiotics during the healing period.
• When cleansing and applying the post-care products make sure you dab them on lightly and don’t wipe the skin as it can cause a reaction.
